UNESCO was prompt in acknowledging the lake’s contribution to the eco-system and awarded it as a World Heritage Site.

This particular national park was declared a national biosphere reserve in as early as 1977.

The large ecosystem comprises lush rainforests, savannahs, glades, hills, mountains, and dry forest.
