Know the most affordable international destinations from India.

Not many years ago, maybe a decade or so, international travel was a distant dream for the majority of the middle-class people in India.  They could only envy people boasting of their holiday visits to the U.S. and Europe.

People used to frequent only hill stations that include Ooty, Kodaikanal, Simla, Srinagar, and Mussoorie.  Now, due to cheap flight tickets and competitively priced hotel accommodations, just about all class of people are able to visit numerous international holiday destinations.

Still, for many people, traveling to the U.S. is beyond their wallet size. I have listed below some of the cheap international destinations from India.

Destinations -Nepal

Nepal bordering India requires a passport for Indians and hence you can call it an International destinations-right?  Well, though Nepal is a must-see place, especially for the people who love to holiday in a cool hill station, it is not a top priority.

Nepal is a beautiful place situated at the foot of Himalayas.  The Annapurna mountain range and the Poon hill located in the Pokhara valley beckon people who love to see green hills. The Phewa Tal (lake) is thronged by hundreds of vacationers throughout the year.

Srilanka

Affordable International Destinations: SriLanka

Formerly called Ceylon, SriLanka is just an hour’s journey away from Chennai or Bangalore.  The flight fare may cost less than Rs.15000 for a round trip if you plan well in advance.

The tea gardens in SriLanka, Sigiriya rock fortress, Mirissa beach and a Leopard safari are some of the major attractions in SriLanka.

Combodia

Cambodia

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia is 6 hours away from Chennai by flight.  Known for its tropical forests and varied flora and fauna, it is visited by thousands of Europeans every year. There are direct flights from Chennai as well as one stop flights, Singapore and Bangkok being the stopover destinations.

The flight charges may come around Rs.10,000, one way.

Angkor Thom, a historic site is the first place a tourist guide will take the travelers to. The Otres beach always preferred by westerners.

It’s another nearby destination from India. The travel time will be around 5 hours from the east coast cities of India. The weather here, hot and humid but the food is really cheap there and the accommodations too are quite affordable.

Bangkok is a favorite international destination among the Indians and the Chinese. Some of the places to see in Thailand are:

  • The temple of Emerald Buddha
  • The grand elephant sanctuary
  • Nai Ham Beach
  • The famous bridge on the river Kwai

As far as the food is concerned, the fried noodles of Thai is very famous. The ubiquitous shrimp soup stalls frequented by travelers as well as the locals. O yes, the cashew chicken is reported to be a mouth watering food.
