Best Cabin Getaways in the US

Looking for the perfect escape into nature? Our list of the 10 best cabin getaways in the US offers cozy retreats where you can unwind and reconnect with serenity.

I hope you know what a cabin getaway is. In short, unlike hotel rooms that we prefer for longer periods, cabins are small accommodations used for short stays.

Cabins are ideal for travelers who want to stay amidst nature during weekends, mostly long weekends.

Places where cabins are rented out.

Cabins are tucked a bit away from a city, but still not far off. In big cities like New York, and Toronto, cabins will be an hour’s drive away.

Otherwise, you can reach the cabins in just 30 minutes from the city center, where hotels are located.

Cabin getaways are located in and around:

  • Woods
  • Lake fronts
  • Less-crowded beaches
  • Hills
  • Ranches, and farms
  • National Parks
  • Game parks
  • Winter sports locations such as skiing and sledding.

What kinds of facilities, and amenities, are offered in cabins?

Since cabins are rented by couples (without children accompanying them), you usually find single-bedroom accommodations, that are still cozy, and comfortable.

With a washroom attached either within the bedroom or outside, you are provided only towels.

Generally, toiletries such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soaps, etc. are not provided. If you find a hair dryer, consider yourself lucky.

Some cabins provide beverage-making facilities.

Of course, you get an air conditioner, which is now a basic necessity and not a luxury anymore.

Anything above these amenities is rare but not impossible.

What’s the purpose of staying in cabins?

Cabins are sought after either for romancing or just hiding out, away from the city. You can call them ‘city escapes’.

10 Best Cabin Getaways in the US for a Relaxing Retreat

At the outset, please know that there are numerous locations across the U.S., where you can rent a cabin.

Sometimes, a rustic forest lodge made of wood only also falls under the ‘cabin’ category.

In such instances, a small restaurant will be available. The chef will cook what you order; nothing ready-made food will be sold.

  1. Watchman Cabins

I would name my cabin like this. Nonetheless, the cabins are located in the Blackberry Mountains, in the state of Tennessee.

May be this mountain is famous for the Balck Berry fruits. Officially, it is called the Great Smoky Mountains.

Blackberry Cabins are located in a privately owned large resort near Ashville (80 km away).

The cabins come with large (floor-to-ceiling) windows and a wooden fireplace to add rustic charm.

To suit the seniors, the property owner offers a cabin that can meet physical challenges.

A family of four can be accommodated in a cabin with two queen-size beds.

The facility to unwind by getting into the wooden trough filled with water. This is called a soaking tub, and it is placed outside the cabin, under the sky.

Do you think it is a wonderful idea in a cabin stay?

In addition, the company also offers treehouses at the site. They look very attractive.  You can stay one day in the cabin, and one day in a treehouse! How about that for a change?

Looking at the location, I am sure it will appeal to one and all. I would enjoy the flora and turn up my ears to listen to birds’ songs.

  1. Under Canvas Cabins, Montana

How about a cabin made of canvas material? Would it be a total change in staying under the canvas?

The location is none other than Yellowstone National Park.

The canvas cabins are located on the west side of the park with views of lovely grassy mountain slopes for which Montana is famous, the highly popular natural hot spring known as the ‘Old Faithful’, and smaller thermal springs.

Of course, you can always spot numerous animals, and forms that are happy to live in picturesque Montana.

Three towns in Montana act as gateways to “Yellowstone Under the Canvas” cabin getaways.

  • Livingston
  • Bozeman
  • Gardiner

You can also choose to stay in one of the cabins located in the Paradise Valley, North Yellowstone NP.

Despite canvas settings, you get a washroom with running hot water. Other facilities include a king-size bed and a deck.

You don’t have to worry about the food and drinks that are available to the guests.

  1. Big Bear Lakefront Cabins, California

I think California has the least number of locations that suit a cabin getaway, despite its pretty long coastline.  The main reason is the presence of a large desert.

However, there are lakes in California that offer wonderful fronts for cabins, and cottages.

Big Bear Lake is one such location in California.

It is located in the San Bernardino National Forest. The nearest city is San Bernardino, southern California.

If San Bernardino doesn’t ring a bell to you, I am sure Los Angeles City will. From the Hollywood cinema capital, San Bernardino is just 60 away in the east.

Quite a few options of accommodations to choose from, which will be a tough decision because all of them are awesome with great views.

If it is winter, go skiing, and stay in a chalet. If it is spring, go kayaking in the Big Bear lake.

Ah, you can test your luck in angling with several competitors sitting, or standing beside with great hope of a good catch.

Trust your legs to hike or hire a bike to go around the Big Bear Lake.

  1. West Gate Park City Mountain Resort Cabins, Utah

With my knowledge, I think, Utah is the best state in all of America for anything outdoor. Be it is hiking the canyons, mountaineering, paddling a kayak or a canoe, wildlife watching, or camping under the sky.

There are too many ideal locations that fit a cabin hideaway.

The cabins are luxury personified here. The amenities include a spa, which is the best thing to do when you are staying in a cabin that is surrounded by nature.

I guess, winter also gets crowded here because of the presence of fantastic slopes for skiers.

You have one, two, and even 4-bedroom accommodation that you can’t call them cabins but villas.

  1. Cabins in Sedona, Arizona

The first amenity provided in every cabin escape is the outdoor hot tub, which I think is a great crowd-pulling feature.

Sedona is no exception. Sedona is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the U.S. It is located at over 4000 feet altitude and is amidst the Verde Valley.

  1. Lake Tahoe Lakefront Retreat

Retreat is a synonym for any kind of getaway such as summer retreats, health retreats, winter escapes, etc.

Lake Tahoe is an idyllic place to hide away from the noise of the city.

Wow! It is peace written all over the place. Even when we look at the photo of Lake Tahoe, we feel a sense of serenity, right?

The lake is located near the California and Nevada border. The nearest city is South Lake Tahoe.

If you want to fly from wherever you are in the U.S., take a flight up to Reno, Nevada. Reno receives only domestic flights from the U.S.

Tahoe Rentals offers cabins near Lake Tahoe. You can choose a cottage or a more spacious holiday home if you want bigger cabins.

This scenic accommodation has three bedrooms with a spacious deck, looking out on the lake.

  1. Cherry Log Georgia Cabin

Blue Sky Cabin Rentals is offering cabins in Cherry Log, a small town in the state of Georgia.

The cabins are built in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hence, you can expect cool woods surrounding the cabins. So, it is a literal, cabin getaway in the woods.

You get a single-bedroom cabin in which a couple can stay. For large families, there is an option to stay in a big, 3-bedroom cabin.

You will be connected to the Internet, free of cost. A television is provided to entertain you.

Pet-friendly accommodations are also available, but I believe not all cabins are like that.

Two nearby lakes welcome you to catch fish or paddle a kayak.

The settings are great for a short or a long hideout in the wooded mountains.

  1. Jackson Hole Cabin Rentals, Wyoming

Wyoming is a state that is blessed with terrific natural beauty. I would say the entire state can be called a hideout.

Jackson Hole cabins are located near the Grand Teton National Park.

Though modernized cabins are also offered, I guess, the rustic log houses are in great demand. I think only such simple, wooden cabins easily merge with the forest background.

I have seen the photos of the cabins and their settings. Furthermore, I am completely bowled over by the location. I came to understand, there are some more places in the U.S., where you can book spectacular cabin getaways.

To name among them, here are a few:

  • Cozy cabins near Mount Rainier National Park.
  • Branson Cabin Rentals, Missouri
  • Adirondack Mountains, New York
  • Poconos, Pennsylvania
  • Broken Bow, Oklahoma

There is a plethora of cabin getaways in America. Once in three months, we all need to unwind in a forest or waterfront retreat.
